Oral history interview with Johnny C. Moa and Olegario H. Cano, Jr., 1996 [videorecording].

Johnny C. Moa and Olegario H. Cano, Jr., tell about the evolution of the True Kings Band and discuss the development and changes in music styles and technology over the band's 25 years in the business. Johnny talks about his family's musical background and his arrival in Dallas from the Rio Grande Valley in the early 1960s. Ollie notes his family's drumming background, his working to buy his first drum set, and drumming to conjunto music and rock and roll prior to the existence of Tejano music. He mentions the band's 4 albums, the first of which came out in 1973, and describes how the band's recordings were played on KBUY Radio. The two compare the band's finances over the years and comment on the band's dance hall venues. They elaborate on their hiring practices and allude to their reasons for excluding women from the band. They both provide details of the band's derivation from the Dell Kings in the late 1960s, which was managed out of Snyder, Texas before Johnny joined the band.
